Thanks to the generosity of the Artists Co-op of Mendocino and the popularity of this artists interpreting artists event, the project has grown into twenty slots being open this year. Ten writers will have their work interpreted by artists, and ten artists will have their work interpreted by writers.
DO NOT put your name on the piece itself.
Include a cover page (or cover e-mail) with your name and the name of the piece.
Submission dates – pieces will be accepted from Wednesday, April 16, through Saturday, June 7 (midnight is cut-off).
DO NOT include any audio or visual with your piece. The piece must stand alone.
Send your cover page and piece to Katherine Brown at email@example.com
Although we hope to be able to include all writers who want to participate, space is limited. Writers will be notified of acceptance via e-mail by June 30.
Our July 16 California Writers Club meeting will include a fun and silly exchange with the members of the Artists Co-op of artwork being handed off to writer interpreters and writing being handed off to art interpreters.
Coordinated artist and writing will be celebrated and displayed at the Artists Co-op of Mendocino at 45270 Main Street (2nd floor) in Mendocino on Second Saturday on October 11, and writers will read their piece while the artwork is shown at our CWC meeting on Wednesday, October 15.
Dear Art Interpreter,
If have been chosen to interpret an artist’s piece you will have received it on Wednesday, July 16 at the CWC meeting at Mendocino Hotel. Silliness and fun ensued as art interpreters and writer interpreters exchanged works and listened to songs and readings inspired by previous Ekphrasis events.
If you are were unable to make the July meeting, you were to notify Katherine Brown at firstname.lastname@example.org with the name of the person who will picked up the artist’s work for you.
Completed interpretations, went via electronic copy of the created prose/poetry inspiration to Katherine Brown, email@example.com no later than September 3, 2014, in .rtf, .doc, or .docx format (no pdf please). Margins should have been one inch or larger all sides, with a 12 pt. (or larger) font. Again, the piece can be no longer than one page, since it will be framed. It may be single or double spaced.
The artist’s piece was to be returned to the Artists Cooperative Mendocino Gallery at 45270 Main St. (second floor above Ocean Quilts), Mendocino, CA 95460, phone number (707) 937-2217, no later than Saturday, September 6, 2014. The gallery hours are 10am – 5pm seven days a week. Rewrap the work to protect it for the journey.
Save the date of Saturday, October 11. Your written work will be mounted next to the artist’s piece and revealed at the gallery’s Second Saturday party on October 11 starting at four o’clock. Plan to bring an appetizer and your friends and family to celebrate and to meet the artist. (Note that the gallery is on the second floor and it is not wheelchair accessible). All art pieces will be for sale.
Also, please plan to read your piece at the California Writer’s Club meeting on Wednesday, October 15, at 6:00 pm at the Mendocino Hotel. A photograph of the artist’s piece will be shown on the projector during your reading. If you are unable to read, please notify Katherine Brown at firstname.lastname@example.org with the name of the person you’ve chosen to read your piece for you.
