2023 Anthology Submissions Guidelines

Theme: Common Ground
(This can be interpreted loosely)
Prose/Poetry Submission dates: June 1-midnight, August 31
Photo Submission: June 1-midnight Sept. 22


Prose/Poetry Entry Rules
Who can submit: Submitters must be a member of the Mendocino branch of the California Writers Club in good standing (i.e. dues paid) at time of submission.


What to submit:
*Prose (fiction, nonfiction, memoir, personal essay) or poetry, two pieces maximum, and combined both pieces cannot exceed 4,000 words.
*Send only publishing-ready pieces.  Edit your work for grammar, spelling, punctuation BEFORE you submit.

Submission guidelines:
*Pages must have one-inch margins and be in 12 pt. Times New Roman Font.
*Double space prose pieces.
*Do not us page numbers or headers.
*Do not put your name anywhere on the piece itself.  That information goes in the e-mail with the piece attached in an .RTF,.DOC or .DOCX format only. (Pieces submitted in .PDF, .ODT, .DAT or others will not be accepted and will be returned without consideration.)
*Each piece must be submitted as an attachment in a separate e-mail sent with a cover letter stating the genre type, word count, an name of the piece.  The words “2023 anthology submission” should appear in the subject line.
*Only unpublished work will be accepted. Self-published books and pieces that have been published online all count as published.
*Do not include anything else with your submission.  It should stand alone.

Photo submission requirements:
*The contributor must own the rights to reproduce the image(s).
*Only digital submissions will be accepted.
*No more than eight submissions, please, and each piece submitted in its own email. The words “2023 anthology photo submission” should appear in the subject line.
*Submissions should include the photo title or physical location.
*Watermarks and other labeling on the photo must be removed.
*Only high-resolution images (300 dpi is adequate) in portrait mode will be considered for publication.
*Submissions must be appropriate to the anthology’s theme.
*While color submissions are allowed, all images will appear in black and white in the book.
*Email artwork to Elizabeth Vrenios at evrenios1@gmail.com.
