​GUIDELINES
Art Initiators
  • Start writing your one page story or poem. Must be 12 pt. font and margins must be 1 inch all around so we can frame this. No exceptions. Writing can be single or double-spaced.
  • Deadline for piece is June 30th midnight. Email w8forwords@att.net. Document must be formatted in .doc or .docx. NO PDF. NO .ODT. Ensure you edit carefully—lots of eyes will be on this.
  • Your job is now done except you’ll be part of the pageantry at our July 20th meeting (let Katherine know if you cannot attend w8forwords@att.net). You will be handed an envelope with a number on it which may or may not contain your poem or story. Artists will be called up one by one, select a number out of a bowl, and take the envelope from you as it corresponds to the number they choose. 
Art Responders
  • Must attend the July 20th meeting to receive an artist’s piece. It is done by you drawing a number from a bowl. You will receive an artist’s piece based on that number. You will not know who the artist is and your piece will come wrapped. If you cannot attend the July 20th meeting, send someone to get it for you.
  • Next—get inspired by the artwork and get writing. Must be 12 pt. font and margins must be 1 inch all around so we can frame this. No exceptions. Writing can be single or double-spaced.

  • Art responders must also return the artwork to the Artists’ Coop--yellow building on the NW corner of Albion and Kasten streets in Mendocino by Sept. 2nd.
October Dates to Mark on Your Calendar:
October 14th, Second Saturday, will be an event (4:30-6:00) held at the Artists Co-op, (wheelchair accessible)— yellow building on the NW corner of Albion and Kasten streets in Mendocino) to see the artwork paired with writing displayed in the gallery. This event is open to the public, so you’ll bring family and friends. Please bring wine or non-alcoholic beverage and an hors d’oeuvre to share. You’ll get to meet the artist, too. Great fun.
October 19h: Readings of the Ekphrasis pieces by both art initiator and art responder writers while the artwork is projected at our Writers of the Mendocino Coast meeting, 6:00 pm, Mendocino Hotel. Open to the public. Many of the artists also attend this event. Always a favorite. Again, friends and family welcome.
