An author event with Valerie Miner on her new novel, Traveling With Spirits. She is a past faculty member of the Mendocino Coast Writers Conference and a member of the advisory board. 

Miner is a professor and artist in residence at Stanford University, author of 14 books, and the winner of a Distinguished Teaching Award. She and her partner live in San Francisco and Mendocino County.

Ekphrasis
"Art describing art"

Half of the eighteen writers inspired a painting. 
Nine responded to a painting with one page
of prose or poetry.
Join us for a show of the artwork and readings by participants.
 
For The Second Year! 
In cooperation with 
the Artists Co-op of Mendocino, Katherine Brown will host a reading by the writers of the collaboration.
A slide show of the 2013 Ekphrasis artwork will be presented in the background. 

October 12

The Artists Co-op of Mendocino will exhibit the collaboration during October and host a Second Saturday reception from 3:30 to 7:00 pm on October 12 at the gallery, 45270 Main Street, Mendocino.
Browse at your leisure and meet the artists and writers. Artists talk at 5:30 sharp. Participants, please bring a snack or beverage to share.

Each month, when time permits, we'll have two members read for 3 minutes each (375 to 500 words.) To participate, put your name in the basket. A name will be drawn at the start of the evening, and another at the end. Please time the reading before the event to ensure it's within the limit.

Member Cheri Ause's story, "The Trouble with Sylvia," which won the 3rd place prize in the Redwood Writers 2012 Mystery Contest now appears in Reloaded (Both Barrels, Vol. 2), a Shotgun Honey press crime anthology of 25 new stories available at Amazon in both print and Kindle editions. 
Member Alena Deerwater recently published "Thank God for Monsters" in the Summer MONSTERS issue at Exterminating Angel Press. 
Member Katy Pye announced the release of Elizabeth's Landing, the new novel for young readers.
Member Jewels Marcus has submitted her poems and been awarded the Freund Fellowship to attend the Mendocino Coast Writers Conference this year. Her poems will also be published in the 2013 Noyo River Review.

     Welcome to the Mendocino Coast branch of the California Writers Club founded in 1909. We are proud to share in this legacy.
     The Writers of the Mendocino Coast meet in the Mendocino Hotel at 6:00 pm on the third Wednesday of every month. We host speakers, workshops, open mics and other yet to be discovered events and activities.
     Our intention is to expand the network and opportunities for writers here on the Mendocino Coast. We hope you'll join us.

Good Words is a collection of the best poems, fiction, and nonfiction, written and performed by students attending Creative Writing classes on the coast. 

Attention children's book writers. The annual Pacific Coast Children's Writers Novel Workshop and Retreat, held October 4th-6th, 2013 in beautiful Pajaro Dunes, California, still has a few openings.
