2021 SmatchUp, "Last Night..."
Participation is open to any WMC member in good standing.

What it is: Writers are anonymously paired to create either a story or poem (genre decided upon entering). One writer starts (one-page maximum), one finishes (one-page maximum), and pairs are revealed at the May 19th meeting when the finished pieces are read. Works will be posted on the website after the event.

To enter: Send an e-mail to Katherine Brown at kheimannbrown@gmail.com starting February 1st and ending midnight February 26th or when positions filled. Designate whether you would like to write either Fiction or a Poem or No Preference. Designate whether you would like to be a Starter or Finisher or No Preference. Do not send any work, merely a request to enter with designations. Pay close attention to the dates below and ensure you can meet the deadlines before you choose to be a finisher or starter. Participants will be capped at ten starters and ten finishers.

Theme and Rules: This year’s theme is, “Last Night....” You can apply the theme loosely and go anywhere with it. Each writer only gets one page, maximum. The page can be single or double-spaced, must be 12 pt. font and one-inch margins. You will be contacted by February 28th indicating whether you are a starter or finisher.

Starters: Have the period between March 1 and midnight March 30 to produce the start of a piece. E-mail finished piece to Katherine Brown at kheimannbrown@gmail.com. Starters may use a working title, but finishers get to title the piece. Starters, no revisions sent after the initial, please.

Finishers: Have the period between April 1 and midnight April 30 to produce the end of the piece and to title it. Finishers may also do minor edits (grammar, punctuation) to the starter’s side, but may not change the story or poem developmentally. E-mail finished piece to Katherine Brown at kheimannbrown@gmail.com.
